Mode of Application and Analytical Visibility: A Conceptual Note on the Use of Analytical Models

This conceptual note distinguishes between analytical instruments as structured frameworks and their mode of application in practice. It proposes that the analytical function of a model may depend not only on its internal structure but also on how it is used within a particular context.

Mode of application refers to the way an analytical instrument is used, while analytical visibility concerns what becomes identifiable through the relation between structure, use, and context. The note introduces mode-dependent analytical visibility to describe how factual grounds, criteria, evaluative relations, or other analytical elements may become differently identifiable depending on how an instrument is applied.

The clarification is situated within methodological work on S-MAF and criteriology and supports analyses of identifiability, reconstructability, reviewability, and the relation between documented structure and analytical use. It does not establish empirical validity, causal conclusions, or normative standards.
